Postwar Elementry Schools
An examination of the architecture of postwar elementry schools as part of a national effort to support citizen construction, through a close study of primary schools built into the northern Toronto suburb of Don Mills.

Jessie Gamarra is an MA candidate in the Art History program at Carleton University, concentrating in arts education and historical architecture research. Her thesis identifies a standardized model of the elementary school that appeared around the midcentury in Canadian architectural press and policy to question normalized notions of identity and nationhood expressed through the built environment.
